Shivaji Maharaj first Conquest
Shivaji Maharaj was attributed to have had a control of almost 360 forts in his region. Shivaji Maharaj was Maharashtra's greatest warrior king known for his excellent millitry and guerilla warfare, is often cited as Maharashtra's pride. In the age of 16 Shivaji Maharaj captured his first fort Torna Fort in 1646. Tt was the first feather on his royal crown. Torna was shivajis's premiere conquest at the very young age. At the age of 16 he forming the nucleus of the maratha empier.Torna Fort (Prachandgad)
Shivaji Maharaj started the Swarajya establishment by capturing this Fort. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renamed the fort "Prachandgad" as Torna . Tt is known as the toran (Garland) of Swarajya. Also there are numerous varieties of flora found on the fort which are used to make garland. Hence, it was renamed as Torna. Shivaji Maharaj constructed several mounment and towers within it.
Torna Fort is a large fort located in Pune district, in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The hill has an elevation of 1,403 meters(4,603 ft) above sea level, making it the highest hill fort in the district. The name derives from Prachanda (Marathi for huge or massive) and gad (Marathi for fort). The fort has two major wings (Machi) namely Zunjar and Budhla machi. While Zunjar machi can be described as the best defensive construction , Budhla is nothing but a huge vertical rock looking like a can put upside down.The main enterance of the Fort called as Bini Darwaja. There is an old temple on the fort which is of year old construction on the fort. This temple is of Godess Menghai Devi.
This Torna Fort also known as The Eagle's Nest. This fort is one of those two forts of Maratha Empire, where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj waved the Saffron flag. and second one is Vijaydurga. Torna fort is captured by the Mughals in the 18th century after assassinating the great Maratha warrior, Shivaji's son Sambhaji.
