Royal seal of Shivaji

RAJMUDRA

Shivaji Maharaj had two seals, one before the coronation and one after the coronation.

After Coronation Seal

“प्रतिपच्चंद्रलेखेव वर्धिष्णुर्विश्ववन्दिता ।

शाहसूनोः शिवस्यैषा मुद्रा भद्राय राजते ।।"

Translation in Hindi 

 जैसे प्रतिपदा का चाँद बढ़ता है, और जैसा कि सारी दुनिया उसे नमस्कार करती है, वैसे ही यह मुद्रा और उसका लौकिक उदय होगा ।

Translation in English

"The glory of this Mudra of Shahaji's son Shivaji will grow like the first day moon. It will be worshiped by the world & it will shine only for well being of people."

“श्री महादेव

श्री तुळजाभवानी

शिवनृपरूपेणोर्वीमव

तीर्णोय: स्वयं प्रभु र्विष्णू: ।

एषा तदीय मुद्रा

भूबळयस्याभयप्रदा जयती”

Translation in English

“Shri Mahadev

Shri Tuljabhavani

God Vishnu has himself taken birth on this earth in the form of Shiva.

This his seal, promising safety to the terrestrial globe triumphs.”

The phrase on both seals are in Sanskrit. It is noteworthy that seals of all earlier Maratha sardar’s including Shahaji raje and Rajmata Jijabai were in Farsi.

Shivaji Maharaj’s seal was probably the first one in his time and place to be coined in Sanskrit.

This is the Royal seal of Shivaji, the first Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire. The script is Devanagari and language Sanskrit. It is usually stamped on the head of the letter, and in some cases, back. Loosely translated, it reads, "Ever growing in splendour like the moon on the first day of the bright half of the month, and adored by the world, this seal of Shivaji, the son of Shahaji, shines for the benediction of all"

Through the inscription, Shivaji Maharaj expressed his gratitude towards his father, his confidence that Swaraj would expand continuously, his own experience of the respect that Swaraj commanded from all, his commitment to the welfare of his subjects, and the certainty of ruling over his land independently. 
Shahaji Raje had cast a special royal seal for Shivaji. This seal'l grow in splendour like the new moon. This seal of Shivaji, the son of Shahaji, receiving homage from the whole world denotes the walefare of the people. ' This Royal Seal was happy omen of SWARAJ.
